  1. My favorite story so far is "House of Anything You Wish". This man loves a woman and they left their country and were separated for a long time. When they finally get to be together again, she has completely changed. She has tried all she can to Americanize herself and loses her true self in the process, which pushes him away as well. He continues to try to reach her but ends up realizing she does not want him anymore, he is too Chinese. In the end, she is the one who will never lose her Chinese background and become American.

It was shocking to realize after everything to went through for her, she did not think he was good enough.

  2. The Last Communist Virgin kept my attention because it was shocking how Wan Li lived and the things she had gone through to live the lifestyle she wanted after moving to America.

  3. My favorite story so far is "The Last Communist Virgin." The protagonist Wan Li is amazing. She is sticking to her Chinese roots while all of New York wants to Americanize her. She is shy an stubborn but everyone loves her. Even her best friend is jealous and envyous of her. It is overall wonderful writing and a great read. - Asha Sathre

  4. My favorite story would also have to be "House of anything you wish". It shows a lot of how relationships can end because of how someone changes. This couple comes halfway around the world at different times and spends so much time apart from each other and when they finally come back together, the woman has completely changed and doesn't want to be with him anymore. She wants to be with a "white man" because she feels it will make her more of an American. She doesn't want to be Chinese anymore. It is amazing how many people move to a new place and want to become something totally different from who they really are. The man tried so hard to be with her and do whatever she wanted but she still didn't think he was good enough and she still ended up leaving him for someone else.

  7. My favorite story is "The last communist virgin"
the main character of this story is Miss Wan Li. she was nice and simple. She lived in New York but she is still think about their culture and family. She is just like as she is. She is not consider that she is smart and overlooking. she accept things as she is. ahe don't need to showoff like her friend.

  9. The struggles communist asians had when they came to America to live. Such survival skills they learned. Women degraded for little income. worked an incredible amount of hours. Needed to take care of selves and family overseas. Living in the darkest of entities.

  10. My Favorite Chapter so far would have to be "House of Anything You Wish". Although his wife wants nothing to do with him nor her Chinese roots he still trys to win her over. I think its intereting how people change over time and in different environments .

  11. I like the fist story "Where the poppies blow".The little girl in that story, she was living between the real world and her own fantasy world. The real world fullfilled with poisonous things which is dangerous for people like her. She had struggled with it with the loneliness and her own world was the only thing that she could dream about

  18. In the chapter " The Last Communist Virgin" Wan Li has some problems staying in one place . Her Friend Jeanne Shin , who is evnvious of her "friend" and is competing for the heart of Peng . Although its no real competition , because Peng loves Wan Li . I think what striked me was that Wani Li and Peng loved one another but they let her being a communist get between them . Also at the end of the chapter i was a little shocked how she concieved his child , but was cool with them parting their ways .
